Eflin Looks Ready. Basallo Keeps Hitting.
The Orioles lost 3–1 to the Yankees on Friday, but the score missed the point.
Zach Eflin was dominant.
Over 5.1 innings, he allowed one hit, walked no one, and struck out seven. The Yankees didn’t square him up, didn’t stress him early, and didn’t run long counts. If this were April, you’d call it an ace‑level outing.
The offense didn’t show much — just three hits — but Samuel Basallo continued his spring surge, driving in the Orioles’ lone run with a ninth‑inning double. Over the past two days, Basallo has homered twice and driven in runs against real pitching, not just back‑fields arms.
The Yankees’ three runs came late, in a spring‑context inning that won’t exist once games count.
Bottom line:
The Orioles are leaving Florida with their rotation in order — and that’s the hardest part to prepare.
